An update

Yesterday was a very difficult day for Guy physically and emotionally.
We are by his bed side all the time therefore it will be very hard to keep updating the blog as before.
Your comments are welcome in order to lift his spirits.

I'm sorry to hear yesterday wasn't such a good day. Guy - just remember that you're going to have your good days and some bad ones. It's all just a test to see what you can handle and we all know what you are capable of. You obviously have a loving family, a lot of good friends and a caring workplace, so hang in there and be strong. We're all wishing you the best!

Guy,

Still thinking of you. I check the blog multiple times per day.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about you. She had a similar story about someone she knew -- several years ago the individual was in an accident on the highway and he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Left his seat at ~60mph, went through the windshield, face-first into a concrete pylon. Very similar injuries to yours. Within just a few months he was fine; no significant functional or cosmetic damage. She was shocked that modern medicine was capable of that, and this was several years ago. Hearing the story made me feel good; I know it's just an anecdote but I understand you have absolutely first-class doctors -- and you are strong.

The good thing about the process is that even when things are painful, every step and every hour brings you closer to recovery and healing.

You will probably have lots of resting time to read and watch TV in a few weeks! I don't remember whether you like sci-fi, but if so, I recommend Battlestar Galactica, the new TV show. Silona and I are big fans. It is rife with admirable and complex leadership characters and challenges -- I think you would like it for the same reasons I do :-)

Hang in there, I know this must be hard. There are many of us who are thinking about you and care very much.

No Adi, don't leave us without updates, please! I try to spare Michal from nudnik phone calls and one of the major reasons I can is this blog. The first thing I do in the morning is look what's new and the first thing I do coming home in the evening is check it again. It is my understanding that most of the people who write here, do the same. So you see, you actually started this blog for Guy and it turns out you are doing double mitzva. I promise I will get you another neckles from the Russian lady in Katzrin... In between I get updates from my parents who speak with Michal. But tonight I will call her.
About 30 min ago I came back from visiting Alona just outside of Tveria, where the Mehina members are helping out in an archeological excavation. Very close to the kineret somebody found a Roman city which is believed to be from the third century. It has a Jewish quarters, a Beit Midrash and it is beleived that Rabi Yochanan wrote the Talmud there.
So Alona and her friends have the privilage of helping out in cleaning the site from bushes and discovering what's under. Last night she slept out on the balcony on a matress in a sleeping bag and woke up to see the sun rising above the Kineret water. She says it was a breath taking sight, and showed me some pictures she took with her cellphone.
Guy, I am truely sorry you had a bad day. and I am sure you know that the only way to understand that a day is good is by having a not-so-good day right before it. this is how we can measure everything in life, by comparing it to it's oposite. And since everything in life is also relative, even when you feel you're sliding backwards, you are actually way ahead when comparing it to a few days before. These are my words of wisdom that I am sorry to say I didn't invevt and I am sure you know all these theories inside and out. But when it comes to actually experiensing it, it ain't no fun at all and as always, it is easier said then done. So I can sit here in my chair, chewing gum right before I will go to brush my teeth, and tell you all these true things, and you still feel rotten. I wish I can take it away from you.
But here you are rising again with your unreal inner strength, rushing forward with your cinical jokes and an almost hidden grin. So be patient my dear, wait out till the difficulty goes away and you are in the driver seat again.
It is 1:30 a.m. and I have to get up in five hours to start my day.
Hang on in there and may the force be with you.
Love you mucho, Noa :-)

Guy,

While driving to work today, I heard a song that made me think of you and your family. It's called "Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavigne. Not sure if you're a big Avril Lavigne fan, but the song carries a message of encouragement and perserverence.

I know that the words in this song are the same sentiments that your friends and family want to give you: you're not alone; we're all here for you; stay strong; we'll make it through.

It's true. We're all cheering for you. Just keep holding on. You CAN do it.

I'm pasting the lyrics here, and Tim will be loading the song onto your GuyPod. I sincerely hope it brings some cheer to you and your family.

Keep Holding On
by Avril Lavigne

You're not alone
Together we stand
I'll be by your side
You know I'll take your hand
When it gets cold
And it feels like the end
There's no place to go
You know I won't give in
I won't give in

Keep holdin' on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through
Just stay strong
Cause you know I'm here for you
I'm here for you
There's nothing you can say
Nothing you can do
And There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So, keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through

So far away
I wish you were here
Before it's too late
This could all disappear
Before the door's closed
And it comes to an end
With you by my side
I will fight and defend
I'll fight and defend, yeah, yeah

Keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through
Just stay strong
Cause you know I'm here for you
I'm here for you
There's nothing you could say

Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So, keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through

Hear me when I say
When I say I believe.
Nothing's gonna change
Nothing's gonna change destiny
Whatever's meant to be
Will work out perfectly
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
La da da da, la da da da
La da da da da da da da da

Keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through
Just stay strong
Cause you know I'm here for you
I'm here for you
There's nothing you could say
Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So, keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through

Ahh, ahh
Keep holding on
Ahh, ahh
Keep holding on
There's nothing you could say
Nothing you could do
There's no other way when it comes to the truth
So, keep holding on
Cause you know we'll make it through
We'll make it through

Guy,

I’m picking up on the trend started here by April, and posting a poem that always lifts up my spirit. I’m sure you’re familiar with it, but it’s always good to read it again – especially in dire situations. I hope it gives you a few minutes of joy and boosts your staying power.

Yair Harel.

If by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Hey Guy,

Hang in there! I know everyone's anxious to come and visit you. Keep on that road to recovery so we can come by and say "Hi!".

I second James' suggestion about Battlestar Galactica. If you aren't already a fan, then you've got a couple of good seasons to catch up on! DVDs can be furnished, if needed. :)

Guy,

As bad a day as yesterday may have been the real day to fear is when the doctors proclaim you well enough for visitors. You may not get a chance to sleep again for a week!

Seriously, there is a huge community thinking of you. You are one of the strongest and most centered people I know, and I hope that strength -- and the strength of your loving family -- are getting you through every day.

Looking forward to braving the crowds to visit you,

Hi Guy,
If there's anyone who can come out of this ordeal, it's you! Highs and lows are going to be a part of the recovery process so don't let that bother you too much.

My prayers and thoughts are constantly with you and your family.

You know, Guy, you've got to get some Monty Python on the GuyPod - otherwise, how will you know how to defend yourself from someone armed with a banana (or a pointed stick, for that matter)?
There was a kind of M.P. marathon on the cable last night and I kept thinking of you while it was on.
Does it hurt when you laugh? If it does, you've got to get some better drugs. I know someone...

Hi Guy,

All the group members are saying Hi. During our last meeting we couldn't do anything but talk about you. All the Hevre are closely following the events and miss you so much.

Last week we had Shira at our place with Savta Malca for Purim. She is a true princess! We took several great photos of her and will send them over to you.

Guy, I wish you fast recovery and we look forward to see you back at our regular group meetings.

Guy and Adi,

My thoughts are with both of you. I heard about the accident and your blog. It's great to see all the support you have. Hold onto it and know there are many people who care.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared
to what lies within us.

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It sounds like you both have great courage. Wishing you courage, strength, and rest in the days ahead.

My best,
